SIMH: “Bling” by The Killers
As time ticks on, the more I like The Killers’ sophomore album Sam’s Town. The one song I believed I despised has turned out to be my favorite song of choice at this moment. It didn’t help that it had the word bling in the title.
SIMH: Thanksgiving Day Edition
Welp….looks like I missed a couple weeks of Songs In My Head Thursdays. To make up for it, I decided to post the more impressive music video to date. Your mind will be blown. Your heart will soar. Your mind will be clear.
SIMH: “Wake up” by The Arcade Fire
My friend recommended that I put this song up, so I said why not? I glanced at another friend’s status a month ago expressing her disappointment in not discovering Arcade Fire sooner. Don’t make the same mistake.
SIMH: “Take u to da movies” by BANGS
This song is, for the most part, awesome. I don’t need to explain why. For a little background, BANGS is a hip-hop artist from Sudan. That is literally all the information I can dig up. He has a few more songs, but this one takes the cake. This song lacks any and all sexual ambiguity but its poor attempt at boasting the opulence of the hip-hop lifestyle is hysterical. See that picture of the sweet car? It’s the first picture that shows up when you google “cadillac”.
SIMH: “Tony the Tiger” by Manchester Orchestra
Time for my usual Thursday segment. I am kind of last minute with this so I will save the introduction, please enjoy! This has quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.
Songs in my head: “To lose my life” by White Lies
Perhaps the single moment I knew I would love Lollapalooza was with this song. We didn’t know what we were getting into, but this song just made the entire festival for me. It could be nostalgia, or it could be a simply a great song, for the reason I love it.
(EDIT: Bumped up the resolution. Usually I make it small if there is live-video so that people don’t form a misconception. Music is about the sounds rather than the eyes, afterall.)

Songs in my Head: “Trashcan” by Delta Spirit
I really can’t praise this band enough. I give them a lot of credit, particularly where it is due. The lead singer belts out soul from his lungs. You think the rich, easy-going lifestyle of San Diego, where this band is from, wouldn’t produce such wonderful soul songs. However, the song Trashcan changes such a perception.
The song doesn’t drag you, in facts holds you dearly as it tells its story. Listening to it, you want to play every instrument from the vocals to what kind of sounds like a trashcan (could be?). It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what this song is about, but the songwriting takes what could be a tired old story of hope and rejuvenation and makes it into beautiful poetry. They don’t need to tell you the whole story, just how they are feeling. And damn it, that’s something special.
Songs in my Head: “Gold and Warm” by Bad Veins
I casually came across this song while sifting through Internet radio stations. Only a handful of times have I listened to it. I feel torn between whether to really like this song or to accept it as an indie band trying too hard. I can admit that I am a sucker for this style of music Bad Veins uses, and to get a full appreciation for this song I will need to hear their entire album.
